Home Groups for Children

boy groups for children

This group is a great place for kids in elementary school who need a little extra help. We call it the A-E-I-O-U Group because that makes it easy to remember and it spells out what we focus on in this group.

A stands for ATTENTION. Being able to pay attention and sustain attention over time is so very important for success at school, at home, and with friends. This group helps your child improve their ability to attend - so that they can learn enjoy life without the obstacle of inattention and chronic distraction.

E stands for EMOTIONS. Before we can handle our emotions, we have to recognize and understand them. We need to know how to put our feelings into words and how to make wise choices about how to express our emotions appropriately. If your child has emotional meltdowns, we will help them find better ways to cope with stress and frustration.

I stands for IMPULSIVITY. Some children consistently act before they think. Learning to stop and consider choices and to delay gratification is terrifically valuable for every child. We will have fun activities to strengthen the ability to stop and think before acting impulsively.

O stands for OWNERSHIP. If your child has a hard time taking ownership of their behavior, it is hard to help him learn from life. If a child always blames others instead of taking ownership, others get frustrated with them and may even stop trusting them. We will help your child get more comfortable with taking accountability, even for their mistakes.

U stands for UNIQUE YOU. This group is about each child and their unique needs and personalities. We honor each group member and work hard to help them feel good about themselves. Each group meeting is a combination of learning, fun, and affirmation.

This group meets weekly. For more information, please contact Dr. Debra Moore at (916) 344-0900. The cost of this group is $40 per weekly session. If your insurance provides coverage for counseling, we will make every effort to help you obtain reimbursement for this service.
